Scrap Hat!

Have you ever visited Laughing Purple Goldfish?  I stop in every now and again and get the urge to crochet.

Well after two baby blankets, seen here and here. I decided I needed a quick, no brainer yarn project. And this was just that!

This baby took me less than 48 hours to do!  I typically only crochet, or knit, at knit after my wild thing has gone to bed.  He LOVES to tangle yarn.  And he is very good at it!

I followed the instructions, and should have went a little shorter, its kinda tall.  But that's alright I have either a nephew or might throw it up in my etsy shop... If you interested, it could be yours!

10 Cherry Reasons I love my garden!

Mmmmm!  Ten lovely cherry tomatoes picked this morning.. And many more to come in the near future!  Gotta love veggies right out of the garden...

If you can't tell, gardening is all I am up to lately. I have a lot of stress going on lately, so crafting isn't happening, just a lot of picking out of the garden, and baking!

Processing...

That's what I did yesterday... Processed my rhubarb!

I picked, cut of the leaves ( they are poisonous), brought inside, washed, trimmed off anything that did not look appetizing, chopped, sorted and froze.  In the end, I had enough to make ten pies!  Yum!  Here's the recipe I use. That's right, I picked 20 cups worth of rhubarb yesterday alone!

Another baby blanket...

This blanket is for a baby due later this year, and the Mommy and Daddy to be are not finding out the sex... Therefore the green border instead of blue or pink.

This is just like the baby blanket I made for Baby S, who is due in the next couple weeks... Same pattern, the only difference is this one is 6 x 6 for a little bit bigger size.  While I felt like the first version flew by while making it, this one took a little longer.

1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup sugar
1 cup finely shreaded unpeeled zucchini

Sometimes I amaze myself!

Getting ready to go out for a while, I wanted to grab a drink to take with me but didn't have any kind of spill proof cup for me.  When your carrying a purse, diaper bag, swim bag, and child. Your doomed to spill. An easy answer...

Drill a hole big enough to accommodate a straw, and your done!  ( Make sure your jar fits in your car cup holder too!)

Hope everyone is keeping cool through this heat wave!

Headbands...

Woo! The heat has found us here in NY.  We went from bearable, and not too bad to unbearable, and barely wanting to leave the house!

Lately, I have been sporting a boring pony tail, and I wanted some other way to jazz it up.  With it being so hot I wanted to be able wear something with or without a ponytail...  Here's what I have been up too!

These were really simple to make too! All I did was take a strip of fabric, folded in half ( wrong sides together), sewn down one side, Flip, inserted elastic in open ends, sewn ends and top stitched!

The white one is actually just white fabric that I doodled on with some watered down acrylic paint!

A Great Giveaway!

I love to stalk blogs... I don't always become an "official" follower because I am better at checking my favorites than my blogger account.. But I have been watching BettyCrockerass for a while now, and she shared with me the Portland Modern Quilt Guild's Blog. I have stopped in here and there, and today there was a wonderful giveaway... If your new to quilting, there are a bunch of great patterns up for grabs!

Remelted Crayons!

Don't you hate when you have a bunch of broken crayon pieces in your crayon box? Me too.  Did you know you can remelt them, and its super easy?

A while back, I found this weird looking skewer ice cube tray at the Dollar Store in town.  ( They still had them the last time I was there too... I may need more now that I found a use for them other than ice!) And well, lets be honest, the ice didn't last very long, and the skewers ( not pictured) didn't stay in the ice well...

Once you use this for crayons, you won't be able to use it for food/ice products.  But for $1 its worth it!

Go through your crayon bucket and find any broken ones you have, or if you want to break new crayons go for it!

Then, take your pieces and fill your tray. Since I didn't have enough to make just one color per crayon I made mixed ones.

I decided it was too hot to turn on my oven like other tutorials in blog land suggest, so I tried the microwave, and it worked just fine. It took about 6-8 minutes on my "Soften" setting. The longest my soften setting would go for each time was two minutes, which was okay cause I checked them each time to make sure my mold didn't break, or they were burning.

After it was all melted it looked like this. I then popped them in the fridge to harden back up.

Once fully hardened pop out of mold. I found that because I filled all four molds it made it a little difficult to get each crayon out in one piece.  So next time I will do only two at a time.

While searching for how to do it, just to make sure I didn't mess this up royally, I found one person who t only used Crayola's and she found that by using one brand the crayons melted at the same time. Which I noticed because I mixed brands.  But the only thing I noticed is that you get a "clearish, white" layer to the crayon. Which you could always cut off and then remelt and maybe it will go away?
