If you have an embroidery machine or sew with lots of colors, then you will LOVE this! I could not stand my threads getting tangled anymore so I searched for an easy ( and cheap) way to store my bobbins. Gotta love blogland, here is where I found this great idea! Sassy Crafter this is genius!
All you have to do is go to your local hardware store, and buy some vinyl tubing and cut a piece out of it! If you just slice it, it will work but the bobbins are really tight, if you slice it again and remove a piece it makes it easier to pull the bobbins out.
Ahhh. Much better than all tangled in a cup, and only cost me $1.07 for 12 inches worth of tubing!
Ooh... did you use pinking shears to cut your tubing? I like the zig-zagged edge! See, this is the great thing about the internet -- we can be inspired by someone else's idea and then add our own unique touch. :-)
ReplyDeleteI did! I was surprised that they cut through, but sure enough they did!
ReplyDeleteKim YOU ARE BRILLIANT! I have been sewing for 40+ years and bobbins and I have been arguing ALL THOSE years! Fee, Ya couldn't spring for a foot for your old "mamma" Mel? I actually lie mine up on my thread thingy since I only sew with cone thread.
ReplyDeleteI think that you have just saved a woman's sanity. Do you know waht diameter of tubing you used? I could go measure a bobbin but that is too much work. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy vinyl tubing says " 1"OD x 3/4" ID", meaning 1" outer diameter, and 3/4" inner diameter.
ReplyDeleteI also just brought a bobbin to the store and shoved it into the tubes I thought would work!
Great tip! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have see this before but I liked the zigzag finish.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Absolutely brilliant! I'm positive it's considerably cheaper than all those bobbin organizers you can spend $30 at the store.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
That is an uber smart idea!!! Love it!

This is such a great idea! My 2 year old actually loves bobbins and as a result, I am always finding them in odd places. This might save me from all sorts of time spent searching through his toy boxes, etc., for the color I need! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a friday link party- we'd love it if you'd link up tomorrow!
What a clever idea ! My DYI ribbon organizer is here http://angsandy.blogspot.com/2010/08/ribbon-organizer.html
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I will for sure be making some of these for my sewing friends!!
