{Crochets} Sarah & Duck Dolls!

Have you ever heard of Sarah & Duck? 

I hadn't but as soon as I mentioned it to my boys, they had seen it on SproutOnline.

My friend's little girl is obsessed, but since it's a UK show there is little on the market as far as toys here in the US.  So what's a mama to do? Ask her crocheting friend to make them! 

So after a little digging, we found a pattern which saved a lot of time and frustration!

My friend bought the pattern and I got to work!

Even with the pattern, I decided to do the head and body a little different.

In the pattern, the head and body are made separately and then sewn together. While that may work for some people, I was scared my sewing wouldn't hold up and Sarah's head would fall off! 

So, I ended up reading the pattern "backwards" and crocheting the head and body as one piece.

I really searched for some of these yarns, so I thought I would help you by sharing what I used since I think they look pretty accurate to the show. From the pictures I saw, Duck's beak is a limey green, and while I tried it with a green beak, the yellow looked much better (made it obvious, that it was a duck and not a strange looking creature!)

Sarah: Red Heart Apple (Hat),Red Heart Buff (Skin), 

Red Heart Light Raspberry (Stripes), Red Heart Baby Pink (Sweater)

Black, White, Dark Grey, Light Grey (from my stash)

Duck: Loops & Threads Impeccable in Teal (Head) Lion Brand Vanna's Choice  in Linen (Body, Wings) Red Heart Buff (Legs) Yellow (from my stash, but I think it's Red Heart Yellow)

Gifts:Baby C Gender Reveal Onesie

I've got to say, I definitely patted myself on the back for this one!

Baby C is meant to make his/her arrival any day now, 

and I wanted to send one last present before the big day!

I gave them their blanket and hat at their shower!

It hit me out of the blue, that they were going to have the baby and most likely text a picture to everyone. But then I thought about our kids first pictures. White onesie, generic baby blanket and hat.

None of my hats were gender specific in the hospital! 

Carters was pink and blue striped. 

Wyatt's was rainbow, 

and Ellie's was pink but didn't fit! 

So instead of making two hats, one pink and one blue (because I was tempted!)

I went with this:

Adorable right?!?!?!

The name will say it all. No matter what color hat! 

This was such a perfect craft for me! All I needed was an onesie (I used long sleeve), some Tulip Fabric Markers from Joann Fabric's! Then, I free handed the name "sticker".

I had thought about freezer paper stenciling, and painting but this was so much faster!

With three kids, fast is my speed right now!

This is my husband's Valentines day gift, so I will take better ones this weekend and update! 

I've always loved the idea of marking your children's ages on the wall. Except the fact that it was on the wall. You can't paint the wall down the road, or worse, not being able to take it with you.

 After seeing some amazing rulers in blogland, I got to work.

I didn't follow any tutorial because it was pretty simple. Turn a piece of 1"x6"x6' into a ruler.

Simple enough.

Here's some things I thought about and did:

- I wanted to include birth heights, so my shortest was 18 1/2". I ended up started it at 6 " to give us some room on the bottom.

-I used my clear acrylic ruler and a pencil to measure all my inches first.

 Then went back and lengthened my 3", 6", 9" and foot marks.

-Then I went back with a permanent marker ( I checked to make sure it didn't bleed on back first!)

-For my numbers and Palmer Company, I printed out a font (American Typewriter) then scribbled on the back of the paper, traced over the front so it transferred the pencil to the wood. 

-Then I s l o w l y, used the marker to trace over the pencil and fill in.

- For "watching our love grow since 2008" I just free handed it.

-And now my favorite part! Instead of just added my children's current heights, I asked my pediatrician for all of their heights since birth! So I went back in with just pencil so it looks like we lined them up all along!
